Sony Pictures Television has promoted two veteran executives to lead the studio’s distribution business.
Mike Wald and Jason Spivak have been named co-presidents of distribution and networks, where they’ll be in charge of Sony Pictures TV’s combined television and home entertainment distribution unit. They’ll report to SPT chairman Keith Le Goy, who headed distribution before moving into the top job in January.
“I’ve worked closely with Mike and Jason for what can only be described as a very long time,” said Le Goy. “From their deep experience managing local markets around the world to navigating the evolving landscape in home entertainment, Mike and Jason each bring the unique, complementary skills to co-lead the business in this unprecedented period of change. I look forward to all that they will achieve in leading our world-class distribution and networks teams in these new roles.”

Said Wald and Spivak in a joint statement, “Sony is very well positioned to continue to succeed in the changing distribution environment. It is incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to work alongside the best teams in the world to navigate this next chapter for the business.”
In their new positions, Wald and Spivak will oversee post-theatrical distribution of Sony’s film slate, worldwide TV distribution, cable networks in Latin America and Europe and multi-channel marketing.
Wald is currently executive vp international distribution and content strategy for SPT. In that post he led international distribution of series and films across all platforms. Spivak co-heads the studio’s North American distribution group and was deeply involved in SPT’s output agreement with Netflix.
