A roster of high-profile comedians are coming together in New York to raise funds for wildfire relief and recovery efforts on the opposite coast.
Comic Relief U.S., a nonprofit focused on breaking the cycle of poverty, is rolling out Comic Relief: Stand-Up for L.A., a live evening of comedy scheduled to take place at New York’s the Town Hall on March 3. The fundraiser will feature stand-up performances and appearances from Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Ramy Youssef, Chris Distefano, Desi Lydic, Hannah Berner and Josh Johnson and others expected to be announced at a later date. Funds raised will go to Comic Relief US grantee partners on the ground addressing the needs of underserved communities in Los Angeles.
“The destruction caused by the L.A. fires is almost unimaginable and the longterm impact on children and families in underserved communities is even greater,” said Comic Relief CEO Michele Ganeless. “This disaster has exacerbated crises, like homelessness and hunger, and disrupted youth education, further contributing to socioeconomic instability and vulnerability. Rebuilding isn’t just about today; we need to step up and make sure families have what they need to recover and thrive for years to come.”
As a complementary event, Second City will host a comedy night with proceeds also benefiting Comic Relief’s response and recovery efforts. Tickets to Comic Relief: Stand-Up for L.A. are now on sale.
