Fleishman Is in Trouble author Taffy Brodesser-Akner is adapting her upcoming book Long Island Compromise for Apple.
Following a multiple-platform bidding war, Apple has landed the rights to develop the dark family drama for television. As she did with Hulu’s Fleishman, Brodesser-Akner will adapt her novel (due July 9 from Random House) for Apple and exec produce alongside Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), Sarah Timberman, and former HBO chief Richard Plepler and his Eden Productions.
The drama, which marks a reunion for Brodesser-Akner with Timberman and Grant, is currently in the development stage at Apple. (The iPhone maker and streamer declined to comment.)

Brodesser-Akner, an award-winning journalist for The New York Times, adapted her first novel, Fleishman, for Disney-backed Hulu in 2022. The limited series starring Jesse Eisenberg, Claire Danes, Lizzy Caplan and Adam Brody is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 87 percent score among critics and an 80 percent rating with viewers. The drama earned five Primetime Emmy nominations, including one for Brodesser-Akner’s writing.

Amid an industrywide reduction in spending as streamers and networks alike right-size their programming slate amid a larger contraction, Apple — along with Netflix and Amazon — has continued to spend freely on big packages like Long Island Compromise. The streamer’s drama slate includes the recently renewed For All Mankind and its newly announced spinoff, as well as Pachinko, Neuromancer, Severance, Slow Horses and The Morning Show, among scores of others.
Brodesser-Akner is repped by CAA and Levine Plotkin.
