Mikey Madison, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is only 25, but she has already made a major impression in Hollywood.
Madison first made her name on the TV series Better Things and in films such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Scream. Then, in 2024, she gave a gutsy, rave-reviewed (94 percent freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes) performance as a sex worker in Sean Baker’s Anora, for which she was nominated for best actress Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards; is nominated for best actress Independent Spirit, SAG and Academy awards; and on Sunday night won the best actress BAFTA Award.
Anora has picked up a number of major awards in recent days with the film winning best picture at the Feb. 12 Critics Choice Awards; the top prize at the Feb. 8 Producers Guild Awards, the same night Baker won the top Directors Guild Award; and best original screenplay at the Feb. 15 Writers Guild Awards.
On Monday evening, Madison joined THR for a conversation in front of 500 students at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. She candidly discussed her life, path to acting and early career; the making of and response to Anora, which premiered at last May’s Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the top prize, the Palme d’Or; and her awards season journey. And she closed by taking questions from students.
Don’t miss this hot-off-the-presses conversation with the actress of the moment!
